Breckenridge engagement session
Late summer sunsets and wildflower fields? Immediate yes. Adrianna and Jake ended up with the most incredible mix of nature for their engagement session in Breckenridge, Colorado. We met up on a mountain pass and the light started to turn orange. Things got a little hazy and we realized a little bit of wildfire smoke was rolling in. Smoke always makes the sun look red and crazy, but it also gave us the pinkest sunset. We saw hardly anyone (yay weekdays!) and said “wow” way too many times at the views and the wildflowers.
How to get photos like this
This Breckenridge engagement session is one I always get questions and comments on! People love these photos (which means a lot!), but this kind of session doesn’t just happen from showing up. We got so lucky with some things, like the weather and the touch of wildfire smoke that gave us pastel skies. But, there were things that were planned ahead of time. Adriana had a very specific vision. She planned their outfits accordingly, she brought the blanket and picnic basket and champagne. She sent a Pinterest inspo board. All of that helps curate how the session looks.
For the actual session we started with some deep breaths. I know, I know, but it really helps; photos can nerve wracking and cause a lot of anxiety! Taking time to actually think through “okay, we’re here, I’m with my person, everything is okay” help lower everyone’s heart rate and go into photos feeling much calmer and more relaxed.
The actual photos. Nearly all of these were gently prompted or directed, but Adrianna and Jake continuously moved through things leading to candid moments. Photos are best when you take the direction and run with it! Some of the photos are fully posed- we had to be super careful in areas because of the wildflowers. We talked through direction, because sometimes, especially the lying down photos, things feel awkward! And that’s okay! We talked it through so it never felt weird that there were photos being taken. All of these things blended together to create an absolutely magical session!
