A summer magic day in Ouray, Colorado. Big Mountain views, fields of wildflowers in all the brightest colors, and privacy. Those things are hard to come by, especially in Colorado in July, but Sarrah and Clay found them. They wanted to prioritize their date around the new moon, and it just so happened to fall on the perfect day for wildflowers.
We started their day at a super cute cabin with mountain views. Sarrah and Clay got ready separately and then did a first look with views of Mount Sneffles. Their dog, Leia, was (of course) a part of everything from the first look to the Milky Way.
With the first look nerves out of the way, we all jumped in the Jeep and headed up into the mountains. The trail we picked is not an off-road for beginners trail, but Clay had done so much research on the route and took us safely up to both lakes. One of the amazing things about late summer sunsets is getting into the mountains while everybody else is eating dinner. We had these incredible places all to ourselves.
One of the best things about off roading for your Colorado elopement day is the ability to get places less strenuously and more quickly than hiking! We were able to visit two alpine lakes and a meadow filled with wildflowers.
Sarrah and Clay picked a spot at the first lake (yes, the water really was that color), to exchange vows. They perfect- personal and meaningful. After taking in the scenery, we headed up to our second lake where they celebrated marriage with a picnic.
Then came the star (get it? You will in a second) of the show. The Milky Way. The stars are most visible on new moon nights because they are darker. The galactic core was directly overhead and we couldn’t stop saying “wow” over and over again. The perfect magical ending to a perfect magical day.
Leave No Trace Note: wildflowers and alpine tundra are incredibly fragile. All photos “in” the wildflowers have been angled and edited to look that way. No wildflowers or tundra was harmed.
