Grand Lake isn’t as well known as other mountain towns in Colorado, but it has easy access to beautiful lakes and Rocky Mountain National park. Katie and Dylan found an amazing Airbnb for their elopement day right on the shores of Grand Lake- seriously we could walk to the lake if we had wanted to!
Katie and Dylan are the type of people that elopements were made for- not because they don’t have friends or family that love them, but because they really wanted a day that they got to enjoy with just the two of them and their animals. They had been visualizing their day for a really long time. The day started at their cute cabin on the shores of Grand Lake. They got ready separately, preserving the magic of a first look. Katie really wanted to still have the magic of the walking down the aisle moment and we were going to make that happen.
One of the fun things about their day was the carefully chosen details. They each picked out the other’s wedding day scent and carefully curated a playlist to fit their day (lots of Taylor Swift, so obviously it was a fantastic playlist).
Once Dylan was ready, he headed to the ceremony spot to set up their floral ground arch. Katie stayed behind to finish her getting her hair and makeup done and when she was dressed she facetimed her mom and sister. We headed to the ceremony site which was incredible – tucked back from the road around some trees and down a hill overlooking the lake it was absolutely amazing. We started their music and Katie got her walking down the aisle look and Dylan teared up a little bit as he saw her all dressed up for the first time.
Their ceremony was perfect just the two of them exchanging their personal vows and talking about their dreams for the future. They followed their ceremony by reading letters from friends and family – so many people had written one to share in their day and say congratulations and how excited and happy they were for the couple.
While taking a couple photos we got interrupted by rain. It still seemed light so we decided to head to our next spot. One of the most fun parts of Katie and Dillon’s day was how excited they were to be married. They just kept saying “husband wife husband wife” over and over again; reveling in their new titles. At our next spot, we only managed a few minutes before an actual downpour began, so we decided to head back to their Airbnb where the personal chef they had hired was waiting to make them dinner. As we drove down around the road around the lake the most incredible rainbow hovered overhead. It was a full complete arch, each end visible over the lake, and extremely vibrant so of course we had to stop and take photos with it because what an amazing once in a lifetime thing to happen.
When we arrived back at the Airbnb, we were greeted by their dog and cat, as well as the amazing smell of dinner cooking. The newlyweds signed the marriage license making it officially official before heading downstairs to dinner. They had created their dream menu with the personal chef and got to enjoy a relaxing dinner as the clouds cleared and the sunset.
After dinner, Katie and Dylan shared their first dance surrounded by twinkle lights on the deck of their Airbnb. They cut their cake and snuggled with their animals and truly soaked in every moment. It was exactly the day that they had dreamed up months ago.
